Microchipping

Microchipping provides a permanent, inexpensive form of identification that cannot be lost or altered. The process is quick and painless and can help ensure a happy reunion for you and your pet. This involves the insertion of a small, rice grain-sized microchip, via a special needle, under the skin between the shoulder blades. The process of implantation is similar to any other injection, but the needle is a little larger.

When a scanner is passed over a chipped animal, the chip responds by transmitting its unique code to the scanner just like a supermarket bar-code reader. The operator can read the code on the scanner’s display and then refer to the national database to identify your name, address and phone number so that you and your pet can be reunited.

Our microchips are compatible with the European ‘ISO’ standard scanner, which means that they can be read by any scanner owned by vets, RSPCA inspectors, dog wardens or customs officials throughout Europe. Our microchips are also suitable for the specific identification purposes necessary for those wishing to travel abroad with your pet under the PETS travel scheme.

Any stray or injured animal brought into the practice without an owner is scanned immediately to check for the presence of a chip.

We use Back Home microchips and the price includes lifetime registration on the national database as well as all the documentation.
